Youth

Northwest Michigan WORKS! Youth Services assist the youth of area in improving educational achievement, preparing for success in employment, developing into good citizens and leaders, and finding paid work experience. Youth advisors work with schools and local employers to provide these services.

Educational Services include:  

• Beaver Island Lighthouse alternative school
• Tutoring
• Study skills training
• Drop-out prevention
• Exposure to post-secondary educational opportunities

Employment Services include:

• Employability skills training
• Internships
• Job shadowing
• Occupational skills training
• Summer jobs for disadvantaged youth

Citizenship & Leadership Services include:

• Leadership development opportunities
• Social behavior and “soft skills” training
• Decision-making training
• Teamwork training
• Community service learning projects
• Citizenship training

Additional Support Services include:  

• Linking youth to other community services
• Adult mentoring
• Follow-up services
• Supportive
• Other services, such as transportation assistance, to help youth succeed in program activities
