Employment & Wages

Goals:
Increase employment rates, retention rates, and wages to promote financial self-sufficiency for families;
Strengthen linkages between economic development and workforce development in order to expand economic opportunities for our communities.

Achievements:
Creation of “TeamWork NorthWest,” a collaborative effort of many organizations to promote successful job retention for at-risk employees; to date, nearly 100 employees are being served by Retention Specialists in 6 companies in Grand Traverse and Benzie Counties.

Plans for 2007:
Expand “TeamWork NorthWest” to more companies;
Expand “TeamWork NorthWest” to include a Retention Specialist for employees with disabilities;
Continue "KAL-TEC" a regional skills alliance program in Kalkaska County to advance the educational opportunities and enhance workplace skills of the county's workforce and to strengthen the county’s economic development potential.
