Northwest Michigan Transportation Alliance

The Northwest Michigan Transportation Alliance is a partnership of 20 human services agencies, non-profits, and local businesses who seek to expand transportation options in Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Benzie counties. NMTA was formed in response to a growing need for the services of Bay Area Transportation Authority, the area's public transportation service.

NMTA exists because:

  • There is a growing population of people who need transportation assistance to maintain their independence.
  • NMTA's collaborative structure allows for comprehensive services.
  • The pooling of resources from existing organizations eliminates duplication of services.
  • Demand for BATA's services is increasing.

Medical Ride

NMTA's current phase of operations focuses on providing non-emergency medical transportation options. Our Volunteer Coordinator works with BATA and volunteer drivers to provide rides to those who need transportation to doctor appointments. For more information about Non-Emergency Medical Transportation, call BATA at (231) 941-2324 or 888-228-7743 at least one week in advance.

Ride Share web site

NMTA's next phase of operations focuses on assisting the residents of Northwest Michigan to get to work and training. Transportation issues can be a major obstacle to getting and keeping a job. The Ride Share web site is one option for those who cannot drive themselves to work.

The Ride Share web site is endorsed by many area businesses, who recognize that reliable transportation allows their workforce to arrive at work on time.
