This year's Summit is designed to inspire local implementation.  As a reminder to what was learned at last year’s Summit, “placemaking” is a community-based approach to the planning, design and management of spaces that have local and regional importance. Put simply, it involves the discovery and implementation of practices that make our communities distinctive, economically viable, accessible, and visually pleasing. Currently, many master plans and regional initiatives, like The Grand Vision, are using placemaking as a tool to build community pride and prosperity.

Placemaking Video Opportunity for Your Community

Each community attending the 2012 Placemaking Summit in either Traverse City or Petoskey is invited to register for a drawing to receive production of your own placemaking video highlighting the activities and growth of placemaking efforts in your community. This information-style video will be entirely produced by the NWMCOG’s Communications Team (at no cost!), with your community’s support and content guidance. Once complete, it will be available to your community to use at their discretion to promote and inform others about your area and how you’re using placemaking to enhance and improve quality of life.  You can enter this giveaway the day of the Summit upon checking into the event.

The Northern Michigan Placemaking Summits are presented by Northwest Michigan Council of Governments in partnership with Michigan Land Use Institute, Michigan Municipal League, and in support of The Grand Vision and New Designs for Growth.
