Is KAL•TEC for Kalkaska residents only?

No. Anyone can take KAL-TEC courses.

How much does it cost?

There is no application process, and no fee to register. Class cost varies. Some classes, such as Adult Education courses, are free to all adults. Some classes are more intensive and therefore cost more, such as the Basic Healthcare class.

Where are classes offered?

Almost all classes are offered in Kalkaska County. Many agencies have generously donated the use of their facilities, making it possible for courses to be held in convenient locations. These include Kalkaska Michigan Works!, The Stone House (Kalkaska Memorial Health Center), Forest Area Community Schools, and others. The KAL•TEC Mobile Classroom travels throughout the county, bringing computers and instructors to less populated areas.

How do I register?

Registration forms are available in the Kalkaska Michigan Works! Center, or click here to print the form. Find your courses in the catalog, then fill out the form and return it to the Michigan Works! Center at 103 Third Street, Kalkaska.

How often are these classes offered?

Individual courses vary in their time requirement; some classes are held for one evening, others are held once a week for several weeks. KAL•TEC courses will be available year-round. Catalogs will be published every few months, with new courses and times.

Who is teaching these courses? Are they qualified people?

Course instructors are highly trained, experienced professionals who bring real-world knowledge to the classroom. For more information on instructors, contact the provider for the course you are interested in or check out the Instructor Bios page on this Web site.
