Job Description: The Northwest Michigan Council of Governments (NWMCOG) seeks a highly motivated, organized, and team-oriented professional to assist the Regional Planning and Community Development Department of the NWMCOG to coordinate and implement community, economic development, land use, and transportation planning projects throughout its ten-county region (Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, and Wexford Counties).
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include project initiation and coordination; meeting preparation and management; data research and analysis; report and grant preparation; and presentations to groups. Additionally, knowledge of intergovernmental processes and coordination; a familiarity with planning techniques and methods; and awareness of local, regional and statewide community development; and related issues is required.
Qualifications:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in urban/regional planning, urban affairs, public administration, or related field (Masters Degree and/or AICP certification preferred). Minimum three years work experience in planning, community development or related field. Additionally, applicants must posses excellent problem solving and analytical skills; the ability to work independently and as part of a team; assist stakeholders cooperatively and courteously; possess excellent oral and written communication skills; and have a strong computer background, including expertise in Microsoft Office applications and experience with GIS principles.
Additional:
This position may require considerable travel around the ten-county northwest Lower Michigan region, including occasional evening meetings and possible overnight stays. Must have valid Michigan driver's license and be able to drive an agency vehicle.
Compensation:
Anticipated annual salary range for this full-time position is $35,000-$40,000. The NWMCOG offers very competitive and comprehensive benefits.
