Welcome to Newton's Road
Newton’s Road works with regional partners to leverage the unique characteristics of Northern Michigan’s natural surroundings, knowledgeable workforce, and rich legacy of community involvement to champion, support and increase access to outstanding learning opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM Education).
We believe that celebrating and investing in STEM Education excellence is essential to the success of individual K-12 learners as well as to our region’s overall economic outlook. Today more than ever, it is critical that we work together as a community to coordinate regional resources in order to meet the challenges presented by the rapidly evolving global economy. Newton’s Road has identified opportunities in three areas:
STEM Careers
The majority of highly skilled professions, degreed or not, require a strong foundation in STEM subjects. We need to act now as a region to prepare, develop and attract the 21st Century workforce required to meet the demands of our most viable, local enterprises. Across the country, during the next 4 years the growth rate for science and engineering professions is expected to be four times that of all other occupations.
Global Markets
Companies need STEM professionals and other skilled workers to innovate and communicate utilizing knowledge derived from rich and relevant educational experiences in all disciplines. A well-rounded education that includes STEM and the arts will inspire tomorrow’s thinkers, collaborators and creators to imagine and invent next generation products and services. Education is key to positioning Northwest Michigan to compete and lead around the World.
Plentiful Futures
Humankind continues to face extraordinary challenges related to energy, healthcare and environmental stewardship. Young minds in this region can and will be a critical resource in the fight to find sustainable solutions to the World’s most pressing problems.
Across the nation, corporations, individuals and legislative leaders share our passion. Click to read more about Chevron’s STEM education efforts or read how Exxon Mobile and their grassroots partners are paving the way to better futures for 1000s of students and their communities.
