The Northwest Michigan Council of Governments is the regional host for the State Trade Export Promotion (STEP) program in Northern Lower and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The STEP program, supported by funds from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, provides financial assistance and professional resources to enhance small businesses' ability to launch or grow exporting operations. Eligible companies may qualify for up to $25,000 in assistance.
The NWMCOG coordinates the delivery of the STEP program and houses two staff: MEDC International Trade Manager, Chris Bosio, and NWMCOG Business Connections Manager, Jaclyn Sanborn. In addition, MEDC International Trade Manager for Agriculture, Donna LaCourt, is based in Gwinn.
