What is KAL•TEC?

KAL•TEC is a community-based initiative offering a broad range of education & training opportunities to adults in Kalkaska County. This program will prepare the Kalkaska County workforce for the changing economy (see New Economy), coupled with invigorated economic development efforts, to raise the quality of life in the county.

KAL•TEC offers classes in computer skills, construction trades, starting your own business, bookkeeping, job search skills, healthy family living, parenting, teamwork and communication, and many others. This wide variety of courses covers many sectors of employment. The range of course offerings was developed in response to needs identified by area businesses as well as expressed desire of workers and job seekers.

Why was KAL•TEC started?

Recent research reveals a need for education in Kalkaska County in order to keep up with changes in industries and the economy. In order to attract businesses and spur growth in the area, the workforce must have the skills necessary to fill newly created jobs. KAL•TEC offers the opportunity to upgrade those skills.

It is also widely recognized that education increases an individual's sense of self worth and accomplishment. This is a positive aspect of any educational program and will help to strengthen the already cohesive and proud communities in Kalkaska County.
