Northwest Michigan Council of Governments administers Michigan WORKS! in our ten-county region. Northwest Michigan WORKS! provides services and resources to both employers and job seekers.
Economic Development of our ten-county region is a primary focus for Northwest Michigan Council of Governments. Our programs provide assistance to employers and small businesses. These include Small Business and Technology Development Center, Procurement Technical Assistance Center, and the Workforce Development Resource Center web site.
The Regional Planning and Community Development department facilitates regional collaboration amongst local governments, private businesses, and non-profit agencies. Programs focus on regional communication and education, environment, transportation, GIS mapping.
Northwest Michigan Council of Governments is the regional repository for the US Census Bureau. We provide population, economic, employment, and school data.
The Michigan Prisoner ReEntry Initiative is a cooperative effort led by the Michigan Department of Corrections, and involving multiple other state offices and many community organizations. Its objective is to create safer neighborhoods and better citizens. MPRI involves planning for successful re-entry for parolees into their home community from well before the prison release date.
